Fred Savage #1: Wind Fall

BDB is pleased to present a new comic series by Steven J. Swanson. Bold, brash, heavy on the rakish quips and pulse-pounding action, Fred Savage takes us to the chaos of Africa, 1982, where the nation of Nouveau Cotentan is experiencing the first spasms of civil war.

The mercenary is a dying breed.  World leaders desperate to distract their people throw their armies at any war they can find, and the old brush fires of Africa are flickering out.  A dreadful, dreary outbreak of peace looms over the merc community.

In spite of it all Savage, an ambitious and unbridled Australian soldier of fortune, continues to look for the perfect war.

He is experiencing difficulties.

Submission call for ROAR Vol. 3: "Moments"

ROAR, an anthropomorphic fiction anthology from Bad Dog Books, is now open for submissions for volume 3. This time around we’re looking for works exploring what makes a noteworthy moment.

Why do single moments have such a lasting impact on our lives and culture? What goes into making a touchstone moment or memory? The openness of this topic is a challenge for the author, as there are many types of moments to explore, from intensely personal and intimate secrets to confluences of external events that can dramatically reshape a whole culture.

Beyond the moment itself, the challenge becomes to relate that moment in a way to convey its significance, perhaps the machinations that put this moment into being, or the reverberating echoes it has on the characters years afterward. We’ve deliberately framed this topic to be as open as possible. In essence, the sky is the limit, and we’re encouraging our submitters to find a unique perspective and creative take on the idea.

Please keep in mind that ROAR is a general audience publication, featuring anthropomorphic fiction. Desired submission size is 5,000-12,000 words. Submissions can be made through Google Docs or sent directly to BuckCTurner@baddogbooks.com. Questions and suggestions can all be sent to BuckCTurner@baddogbooks.com as well.

Your editor,

Buck Turner

Found: One Apocalypse

Pre-order now! From Ben Goodridge, author of White Crusade, comes a rollicking adventure across a lawless galaxy! After much cajoling, Ben gave in to the pressure of destiny and his demanding publisher and committed to writing what he was born to do: space comedy.

Interplanetary rag-and-bone man Iorgi Murrett is fed up. He’s about ready to pack it all in and become a shill for the Company, though it’s on record that he’d rather be on fire.

Then, while searching for scrap metal, he uncovers the buried hatch to an ancient starcraft. Forced to take refuge within its armored walls, he’s trapped as its defense mechanisms come online, making him the proud owner of the 500-year-old Battleship Apocalypse, a flagship in a severe state of disrepair, yet carrying a sophisticated defensive grid and bristling with experimental weapons.

Now Murrett is on the run across space in a ship held together with duct tape and hope. Joining him are a shrill and demanding princess who fancies herself a freedom fighter, a mining robot possessed by a vacuous alien, a one-armed smuggler, and an accountant who happened to answer his want-ad.

In pursuit? A team of pirates flying ice-cream vans, the Charter’s mysterious and shadowy Agency, andthe armies of the Eliak, who
are…well, the rightful owners, if one really wanted to be picky about it.

The Galaxy doesn’t stand a chance.

Found: One Apocalypse features gorgeous cover art and interior illustrations by award-winning Finnish graphic artist Tuuli Hypén.

Ben Goodridge’s newest novel will debut at Furry Fiesta in late February and is now available for pre-order from our friends at FurPlanet!

BDB salutes the cheapasses

To spur the shoddy reading habits of our internet-obsessed little community, BDB and FurPlanet have hit upon the only way to get furries to read books: money. We know you’re all cheapskates, and just this once, we’re going to make it easy for you!

BDB is proud to announce that for the month of April, all BDB books will be sold on FurPlanet at a $5 discount, meaning that all prices drop from $19.95 to only $14.95. Even Kamui’s new art book Work In Process is dropping from $16.95 to a measly $11.95 - a wonderful and witty full-color tutorial and self-help book for the price of a super-sized meal. What a deal!

Have a poke around the catalog on baddogbooks.com (remember, this reduction applies only to FurPlanet!), or head straight to the BDB catalog on FurPlanet. Hurry!
